CHRISTMAS IN A BEDROOM- CHRISTMAS TREE AND NEW BEDDING
This fall we were gifted my father-in-law’s varsity jacket from 1960. I initially asked my mother-in-law if she had any jerseys of my husband’s or my father’s inlaws so I could take our son’s first day of school photos in it. I could not believe it when she brought up both my husband’s and father’s letterman jackets. It is especially precious because my father-in-law passed away a few years ago. When it came time to put it away for the next school year I found myself unable to.
When the holiday season started approaching I was thinking of putting a Christmas tree in our son Will’s room. I was trying to think of a kid’s theme but something super special and then it dawned on me “The varsity jacket!” I started looking for sports-themed Christmas ornaments and kept falling short, especially since I wanted that old world Christmas feeling. All of the sports ornaments were just too “on the nose.”
I started looking on eBay for vintage varsity letters but soon realized that would be cost-prohibitive to fill a tree. Then I remembered last year I found the cutest chenille letters on Amazon. I purchased some velvet ribbons in adorable colors and they made the perfect ornament. I simply folded over the ribbon crossing in the middle and hot glued to the back.
Then I found mini trophies that made perfect athletic ornaments with the same velvet ribbon tied into a bow. They really make the perfect ornament for a sports fanatic or to show your team spirit!
I also added a few mini gold picture frame ornament with family photos of Will, my husband, and my father-in-law. The little gold frames with velvet ornaments make such great keepsakes. They would also make the perfect gift for Christmas parties or ornament exchanges in addition to cute Christmas decorations!
Then of course there is my favorite part!! the tree skirts! I was initially going to drape to cover the opening of the basket
I can’t forget the artificial trees though! I wanted to gorgeous Anthropologie Christmas tree but again… cost. I ended up finding an almost identical match at Target. This was my first time purchasing a Christmas tree from Target and I could not have been happier! The narrow formation to me is the perfect Christmas tree formation. I find it makes the tree so much more versatile as you can fit it in any space and use it in so many different ways. The frosted little trees are stand-outs on their own but also are perfect for themed trees as they seem to highlight the ornaments more.
I couldn’t stop at the tree though! I ended up finding the sweetest plaid linens that seemed to just finish the room. The light display of the tree in combination with the classic Christmas colors and mixed plaids make the room so cozy
